Central Beds Call for Sites opens 15th February 2016

Phillippa Martin-Moran was pleased to attend the recent Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) agents panel on 29th Jauary 2016 and report back with the following updates:

Local Plan

The new Local Plan will be launched on 8th February 2016 and the call for sites starts on 15th February 2016. The Council will look at sites of 10 or more units and there is no upper limit. This is a significant change from CBC’s previous strategy looking at only 500 + unit sites and opens up opportunities for landowners.

Sites which have been previously submitted in 2015 call for sites are still in the system, however, CBC recommends that further information is submitted based on CBC's current strategy.

The consultation on the site selection criteria also starts on 15th February 2016.

CBC is planning to have a new consultation in February 2016 and submit for examination in April. CBC needs to amend its proposed policy on charging more for sites with 10 or fewer units in light of the court case ruling quashing the guidance on exempting small sites form s106, but is still proposing to move ahead with adopting CIL.
