Ensure your land is included in the Bedford Borough Local Plan 2035

Are you a land owner? Important opportunity to ensure your land is included in the Bedford Borough Local Plan 2035

As you may have heard in the news Bedford Borough Council has prepared a Consultation document “Local Plan 2035” that has now been to the Council’s Executive and is awaiting publication. The plan indicates the preferred development strategy and allocates the sites that will deliver the proposed housing requirement for the period to 2035.

The 2017 consultation offers an opportunity for those with an interest in land to comment on a preferred development strategy that includes one or more new settlements to accommodate a significant proportion of the Borough’s growth over the next 20 years and beyond. Comments will also be invited on draft Local Green Spaces and a range of new and updated technical documents following the release of new national population and household projections in 2016.

On 22nd February 2017, the council’s Executive considered a report on the Local Plan 2035 and agreed the consultation should go ahead subject to some amendments. The Plan once published will undergo a consultation exercise over 6 weeks expected to be between 18th April and 2nd June 2017. This consultation process is significant because once concluded the Council will prepare a final draft plan that will be submitted to the Inspectorate for Examination In Public and then adoption. This is a very important opportunity to promote land that you control and encourage the Council to include your land in the Local Plan 2035.
