New builds on the up

Good news for the Government and for the housing building industry: the latest stats produced by the Government show that the number of new homes built this year has increased by 10%.

It is interesting to note that first time buyers are now at their highest levels since 2007.

Key areas of supply remain the same as last year: from Devon and up into parts of Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, continuing North of London and on into Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire, although parts of Oxfordshire performed less well.

At a planning level, many local planning authorities are in the process of producing new local plans with varying degrees of success offering developers the opportunity to seek allocation of their sites or to test old plans through planning applications where local planning authorities are failing to deliver houses under the requirement of the 5 year land supply.
