Secretary of state announces 6 month extension to scrutiny of appeals in neighbourhood plan areas

Planning minister Brandon Lewis has confirmed that the scrutiny of appeals involving housing proposals in neighbourhood plan areas will continue for an additional six months.

In July 2014 MPs were told that the Government’s clear policy intention when introducing neighbourhood planning, which was to provide a powerful set of tools for local people to ensure they get the right types of development for their community, while also planning positively to support strategic development needs.

Speaking during the report stage of the Housing and Planning Bill, Lewis said that the secretary of state will continue to consider intervention to recover certain appeals where there is a made or submitted neighbourhood plan".
