Warwick Local Plan Formally Suspended

The Inspector of the Warwick District Council Local Plan has this week officially accepted the Council’s request for a suspension of the Examination in Public of the Plan until May 2016.

The suspension is to allow the Council to undertake more work to establish the quantum of housing required. Crucially the Inspector wrote that there is a significant need for additional housing sites. This presents an opportunity for landowners to promote their land for development.

It is currently considered by the Inspector that there is a shortage of around 5,200 dwellings.

This has an impact on the soundness of the Local Plan, but also on the Council’s ability to demonstrate a 5 year land supply. A number of recent appeal decisions have gone against the Council in favour of allowing sustainable, but unplanned sites to be developed for new homes.
